Duties and Responsibilities: According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, common duties of a police officer include patrolling designated areas, enforcing laws, answering calls for help, arresting individuals suspected of committing crimes, issuing citations, testifying in court and conducting traffic stops.
Salary:  $49,105-$57,316
Education: Police officer education requirements range from a high school diploma to a college degree. The minimum requirement is usually a high school diploma, although an increasing number of police departments require applicants to complete at least one or two years of college coursework or have an associate's degree.
Demand for this particular career: job opportunities for police officers are expected to grow in the coming decade. Cities with large population growth will see the greatest demand for police services, as well as departments that need to replace officers who are retiring.
